Walmart Won't Accept Returns on These Items and Customers Are Furious
For a few weeks, Walmart slightly changed their usual return policy and prohibited in-store returns and exchanges during the coronavirus pandemic. According to their policy, they paused in-store returns and exchanges for specific items for the time being, to ensure the safety of customers and employees. However, on June 15, Walmart lifted restrictions for a number of states, yet it's not available to all quite yet.
According to their website, returns and exchanges are still temporarily paused in Arkansas, California, Illinois, and South Carolina. They are also paused in New Jersey and Minnesota in order to follow local ordinances that prevent returns throughout the state.
As of now, in-store returns and exchanges are available for any purchases that took place between April 20 and June 29 in the following states: Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Wyoming. Customers can return items with a receipt by Sept. 29.
According to ABC7 Chicago, this particular Walmart return policy has left customers quite angry with the inconvenience.
What are the restricted items?
If your area is still restricting in-store returns and exchanges, these are the items that you won't be able to return:
- Paper goods
- Home cleaning supplies
- Laundry soap
- Health & beauty
- Apparel items
However, Walmart is understanding that some of these items may need to be returned, which is why they offer a virtual solution for customers to make their returns.
What should the restricted states do?
There's an easy way to get around Walmart's return policy restrictions. Instead of returning purchases in the store, Walmart offers online returns for customers that have a receipt. In order to do so, you simply go to the Walmart app or their website and fill out the form for a return. So if you're still in a restricted state, simply return it online!
If you aren't able to return it online, Walmart says to hold onto it. Any items that are in these impacted categories will have an extended return period on them for up to six weeks.
