You Can Now Go to the Doctor at Walmart in These Two States
How about this future scenario? You run to your local Walmart to pick up groceries, purchase a new set of tires, and get your teeth cleaned and/or have your sore throat examined. It may sound a bit crazy, but it's entirely plausible because the world's largest retailer is aggressively moving into the healthcare business.
Walmart recently announced plans to open two more "Walmart Health" centers that offer customers a wide variety of primary care, dental, and behavioral health services, reports Forbes. These new health centers will open this month and are located in Loganville, Georgia, and Springdale, Arkansas. (There are already Walmart Health centers in Dallas, Georgia, and Calhoun, Georgia, which opened last fall.)
"Having access to quality, affordable healthcare has never been more important in the United States," Walmart's Senior Vice President of Health & Wellness, Sean Slovenski wrote in a post that announced the company's plans for expansion. "We're navigating a global pandemic that has exposed the vulnerabilities of our healthcare system and makes it hard for many families to get the care they need when they need it."
Slovenski went on to describe how effective the two existing "Walmart Health" centers have been for their surrounding communities. "Patients have responded favorably to our low, transparent pricing for key healthcare services, regardless of insurance status. They're also appreciative of the convenience of our facilities that offer primary and urgent care, labs, x-ray and diagnostics, counseling, dental, optical and hearing services all in one central facility."
Considering that 90 percent of all Americans live within 10 miles of a Walmart, Slovenski added that expanding their health centers into new areas of the U.S. can bring quality healthcare to the communities that need it most. "We don't take lightly the responsibility to serve our customers in this way, including through our $4 generic prescription program we launched more than a decade ago."
While no further plans have been revealed, it seems likely that if these two new Walmart Health locations are a success, we could see more rolled out around the nation as well. For more, find out which key area Walmart may be removing from its stores for good.
