The Most Incredible Way to Use Coke You've Never Tried
Coca-Cola has a long, chilled, and refreshing history. What started in 1886 hasn't changed too much, except other drinks have been added to the brand's lineup. But there are lots of things you can do with a can, bottle, or a liter besides drinking it. Some people use it to bake cakes and brownies. Others use it to clean household items. But the most incredible way to use coke you may not know of involves your head!
We don't know the full extent of the recipe for the soda since it is kept in a secure vault in the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta. However, ingredients we do know can transform your hair! (For more on iconic foods, here are 15 Classic American Desserts That Deserve A Comeback.)
Several beauty publications have shared the secret before, but you can use the soda as a hair rinse. Coke smooths out hair and adds texture, according to Seventeen magazine. This is because of the pH balance of the soda. It is very acidic, meaning hair will be less frizzy if rinsed with coke. A 2014 article published in the International Journal of Trichology found that hair products with a higher pH and less acidity could lead to "cuticle damage and fiber breakage."
In addition, lower pH products can help prevent static electricity from harming hair and making it frizzy. Along with a smoother texture, the sugar in the drink potentially gives hair more volume.
Using some coke for your hair instead of drinking it might actually save you from a blood sugar spike, an acne breakout, and even a restless night's sleep. One 12oz can has 140 calories, 45 mg of sodium, 39 g of carbs, and 39 g of sugar. While that isn't as bad as other sodas on the market, it isn't great, especially since it is loaded with High Fructose Corn Syrup. This is actually what gives your hair the tousled look. If you're craving this staple, go for the classic instead of flavored versions like Vanilla or Cherry.
