Texas Roadhouse Invites Military Vets and Personnel to Eat for Free on Veterans Day
Texas Roadhouse is serving those who have served—for free! In honor of Veterans Day, which falls on Monday, November 11, the all-American steak joint is opening its doors to veterans and asking them to keep their wallets closed.
"Texas Roadhouse appreciates the men and women of our armed forces," the restaurant said in a press release. "Each year, we honor their commitment to protecting our nation by hosting a free lunch for all active and retired military."
This is the ninth year in a row that vets have been invited to eat lunch for free at Texas Roadhouse. At most locations around the nation, the celebration runs from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m local time. Active, retired, or former military personnel just need to show some proof of service—a military ID, a VA card, and discharge papers will all do the trick—and voila, free lunch!
Once veterans are in the door, they'll find a robust, 10-item Veterans Day Lunch menu, including a 6-ounce sirloin (plus two sides), a pulled pork sandwich (with, what else, steak fries), country fried chicken, and—of course—a cheeseburger. Plus, each entree comes complete with a free soft drink: Coca-Cola products, iced tea, or coffee. Can you think of a more all-American meal than that?
For what it's worth, a slew of other chain restaurants are joining Texas Roadhouse in honoring our military personnel this year: Applebee's, Chili's, and Red Lobster are, to name a few. What's more, at all three of those national staples, there's no time limit on the free meal. So, theoretically speaking, a particularly industrious vet—someone with a good appetite to boot—could score a plate of chicken tenders for lunch (at Applebee's), a chicken bacon ranch quesadilla for second lunch (at Chili's), and a plate of seafood-stuffed mushrooms for dinner (at Red Lobster). Or, for those with an insatiable sweet tooth, Red Lobster is alternatively offering free dessert.
