Pistachio Milk Is Now a Thing

Moo-ve those cartons over! Two new milk alternatives are coming to a grocer near you.

With celebs like Khloe Kardashian and Beyoncé ditching dairy to lose weight, milk created sans cow is growing in popularity. And, as of late, it's becoming exceedingly diverse. Beverages made from cashews, almonds, soybeans, hemp, rice and coconuts are nothing new. But now, thanks to NüMoo, the brainchild of cold-pressed juice brand Juisi, pistachios and pecans can now be sipped through a straw.

Not only is NüMoo organic and GMO-free, the drinks are made using the entire nut. That means there's no waste and you get up to four times the amount of nuts in your milk compared to other brands. But that's not all: NüMoo doesn't use any icky stabilizers, gums, lecithin, extracts, added vitamins, or raw sugar, either. Instead, they use dates or maple syrup to add a hint of sweetness to their drinks. This clean cooking approach allows NüMoo to create their beverages using eight ingredients or fewer.

Juisi Co-founder Joseph Savino says these trendy new nut milks are meant to be consumed on-the-go, much like a pressed juice, as opposed to something you might add to a smoothie or a jar of overnight oats. And considering they only come in specialty flavors like vanilla bean, dark chocolate, espresso, and strawberry (yum!), that makes perfect sense.

In terms of nutrition, pecans and pistachios both bring powerful nutritional profiles to the table. Pistachios are packed with more potassium and vitamins K and B-6 than almonds, and boast 6 grams of protein per ounce, making them one of the best-ever high protein foods for metabolism. And let's not forget about those pecans! They're one of the most antioxidant-rich nuts in the world, and they've been shown to prevent arterial damage and keep heart disease at bay. Not too shabby.

While NüMoo isn't in stores quite yet, the bottles will be hitting Whole Foods locations across New England, New York, and New Jersey this summer. Keep your eyes peeled, folks!
