This Beloved Burger Chain Is Opening 400 New Nontraditional Locations
Big news if you're a fan of the Biggie, Dave's Double, and fast food's original spicy chicken sandwich: One majorly loved burger chain is going big by launching a new type of restaurant around the country. This revolutionary growth, one brand executive says, is due to one important observation: "I think customers are telling us that they like that convenience."
That thought was attributed to Wendy's chief development officer, Abigail Pringle, who informed the media last week that Wendy's is preparing to open 1,200 new restaurants by 2025. Wendy's executives say one-third of those—around 400—will include "ghost kitchens, delivery-only locations, fuel and travel center locations," said Restaurant Dive, who added that Wendy's is "even doing a Frosty cart in a Florida zoo."
Wendy's currently has 6,800 restaurants around the U.S., and these new locations will take them to 8,000 altogether. Wendy's customer trends during the pandemic indicated that customers are interested in more convenient and off-premise options to grab a Dave's Combo or a Big Bacon Classic. Pringle said: "In the past I think restaurant brands, and even Wendy's, might have said a traditional four-wall, drive-thru restaurant was the only way to go, but then we would have missed out on being where customers are." She added, "We have things like mobile ordering and curbside. We want to enhance our drive-thru experience, but also importantly, how do we enhance our delivery experience?"
There's no word just yet on which markets will see these updates first, but this is one development for fast food fans to keep an eye on. If you're catching up on the week's news, check out This Fast-Food Chain Is the Likely Source of a New Norovirus Outbreak, and:
