Idaho Funeral Homes are Too Full
"The rising death toll from COVID-related complications is impacting funeral homes and wait times for cremation services," reports KTVB. "Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise shipped in a refrigerated trailer to store some bodies. The funeral home can hold 16 bodies inside its regular refrigeration facility, but the need is much greater. The additional refrigerated trailer can hold up to 50 bodies. During the month of September, Salove recorded 28 deaths due to COVID. In any given September, the normal death toll would be around 50 at the funeral home. This month alone, it was 80. In the state of Idaho, 220 people died from COVID in August. In September, that number nearly doubled — to 401 deaths in one month."
Wyoming Has ICUs Filled
"For every 100 people spotted around town in Gillette, the number wearing masks can be counted on one hand," reports the AP. "All the while, COVID-19 patients have been filling several of Wyoming's hospitals including the one in Gillette, the state's third-largest city. At Campbell County Memorial Hospital, 17 of 27 intensive care and medical-surgical unit patients recently had severe COVID-19, leaving just two beds open while the very worst coronavirus cases got flown to more intensive treatment in neighboring states."
Montana Can't Keep Up With the Surge
"In Billings, Montana, emergency room doctor Jamiee Belsky can barely keep up with the surge of new COVID-19 patients," reports CBS News. "At Billings Clinic, the largest hospital in the state, the ICU is running at 150% capacity with younger and sicker patients admitted daily. The National Guard is on hand to help care for and screen new patients while hallways house the overflow." "People need to get vaccinated because right now we're hurting," Belsky said.
Georgia Cases are Going Down—But the Governor Has a Warning
"As COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations drop in Georgia, state leaders encouraged people Thursday to protect themselves ahead of the next possible surge of the virus," reports Fox 5 Atlanta. "At a news conference, Gov. Brian Kemp said hospitalizations across the state have dropped by a third over the last seven days, with the number of cases also on the decline. However, the governor urged Georgians to get vaccinated before another wave hits." "I want to emphasize the importance of not waiting until the next wave of COVID cases to get vaccinated," said Gov. Brian Kemp. "I'm encouraging those who are unvaccinated to talk with your doctor or a trusted medical professional about getting vaccinated before whatever may come our way later this year or in early 2022."
West Virginia Governor Says They are in "Eye of the Storm"
"West Virginia's active cases of covid-19 continue to decline, but the most serious cases are continuing to strain medical facilities and families," reports WV Metro News. "We're going through almost the eye of the storm right now," Gov. Jim Justice said at a pandemic briefing today. "We know that at any level of peak, we lose a lot of people."
