Starbucks Just Launched a New Grocery Store Line

On-demand and ready-to-drink cold brew you say? In our own home? Sign us up!

Starbucks is busy preparing cold brew, but not for the coffee shop…for your fridge! The coffee chain is releasing one-serving Starbucks Cold & Crafted bottles within the ready-to-drink (RTD) category you already see on grocery store shelves.

The 11-ounce, $3 bottles of Cold & Crafted Coffee with a Splash of Milk & Vanilla and Coffee with Splash of Milk & Mocha have 90 calories per bottle and the Sweetened Black has 50. And while Starbucks has quite a few RTD products already (including cold brew), the research and development team looked especially hard at creating these, the company says. They ultimately picked cold brew because of its "complex, yet balanced profile" of cocoa and coffee. (Related: Grocery Shortages To Expect in 2021, According to Experts.)

"The team's primary focus was to develop lightly sweetened coffee beverages, below 100 calories, without compromising the taste profile," a senior product developer on the Starbucks R&D team, Manpreet Cheema, said. "Choosing the best roast profiles and brewing method was key to delivering on a smooth, refreshing sip, and we did months of tastings and consumer tests to make sure we got it just right."

So if you're ever at home and desperately in need of a cup o' joe (we've all been there), these three cold brews seem like a good option to have on hand. But you also can make your own barista-rivaling latte or coffee at home!
