McDonald's Has Run Out of Milkshakes In These Places

Bottled drinks are in short supply, too.

While McDonald's could be coming up on a potential paper bag and plastic straw shortage in the United States, the chain is running out of some menu items in other parts of the world.

According to CNN, McDonald's in the U.K. is temporarily out of milkshakes and bottled drinks. As many as 1,300 of the chain's locations across England, Scotland, and Wales are completely wiped clean of these items, the publication reported.

"Like most retailers, we are currently experiencing some supply chain issues, impacting the availability of a small number of products. Bottled drinks and milkshakes are temporarily unavailable in restaurants across England, Scotland, and Wales," a spokesperson for the chain said in a statement on Tuesday. "We apologize for any inconvenience and thank our customers for their continued patience. We are working hard to return these items to the menu as soon as possible."

The U.K. has been battling all kinds of restaurant industry shortages in recent weeks, thanks to staff shortages caused by Brexit as well as supply chain strains caused by the pandemic. And McDonald's isn't the only fast-food company taking items off their menu due to these circumstances.

KFC tweeted out a warning of shortages to its U.K. customers in July, telling them several menu items, as well as their iconic packaging, may be in short supply at some nationwide locations. Nando's, the U.K.'s beloved chicken chain, had to shut down dozens of locations recently thanks to a shortage of chicken.

"Hey, The UK supply chain is having a bit of a 'mare right now," the chain tweeted. "This is having a knock-on effect with some of our restaurants across England, Scotland and Wales. We hope to be back up and running again soon."
