Dr. Fauci Just Issued This "Serious" Warning

Things are about to get way, way worse—listen up to learn how to stay safe.

The COVID-19 headlines are starting to resemble the ones from last year, with a sad twist: Cases are over 100,000 a day, deaths and hospitalizations are rising despite the vaccine, and more kids are getting sicker, quicker. All this despite a safe, effective vaccine. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is seriously concerned. Doesn't it feel like deja vu? "It sure does. This is a very difficult situation," Dr. Fauci said on Meet the Press today. Read on for his 6 life-saving pieces of advice, now that Delta has changed everything—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Sure Signs You Have "Long" COVID and May Not Even Know It.

Dr. Fauci Said the Delta Variant is "Very Dangerous" and Even Vaccinated People Need to Avoid It

"There are two really serious aspects about this," said Dr. Fauci. Delta is "extremely dangerous for the unvaccinated, because if they get infected and if they stay unvaccinated and don't wear masks, ultimately they're going to wind up getting infected." He called it "a pandemic and an outbreak of the unvaccinated." Additionally, those who are vaccinated can carry the virus and spread it to others, leading the CDC to tell even them to wear masks in areas of high transmission. "If you are vaccinated, you are very well protected against getting infected (although since no vaccine is 100% protective, there will be what we call breakthrough infections)….But now we're finding that the level of virus is really quite high, which means one of the bad things about all of this is that even though you are protected from getting severe disease, if you're infected, you can transmit it to someone else, even if you're vaccinated. And that's the fundamental basis of now saying people should be wearing masks in indoor public places when you're in a region that has a high level of infection."

Dr. Fauci Said Worse Mutants Could Come if We Don't Stop Delta Now

"When you have the dynamics of virus that continues to have the virus circulate in the community, as we're seeing mostly in unvaccinated parts of the country, usually the Southern states, what happens if you allow the virus to freely circulate, there's a tenant that everybody knows in virology: 'A virus will not mutate unless you allow it to replicate,'" said Fauci. "So if you allow the virus to freely circulate and not try and stop it sooner related, there is a likelihood that you will get another variant that could, I'm not saying it will, that could be more problematic than the Delta."

Dr. Fauci Said We All Have This Responsibility to "Crush the Virus" Or Else….

"Fortunately, for us, the vaccines do quite well against Delta, particularly in protecting you from severe disease. But if you give the virus a chance to continue to change, you're leading to a vulnerability that we might get a worse variant. And then that will impact not only the un-vaccinated that will impact the vaccinated because that variant could evade the protection of the vaccine. So people who were unvaccinated should think about their own health, that of their family, but also the community responsibility to crush this virus, because before it becomes even worse."

Dr. Fauci Has Predicted up to 200,000 Cases a Day

"We're at 118,000 cases today," said Todd. Fauci has predicted that going up to 200,000 daily, not that far from the peak of the pre-vaccine pandemic. "Are we going to have an even worse fall in winter?" "Well, this is fundamentally an outbreak, a pandemic among the unvaccinated, that is proven true," said Fauci. "One of the problems with that is you don't want people to get sick and to get hospitalized and to die. And that is actually happening now, predominantly overwhelmingly predominantly among the unvaccinated."

Dr. Fauci Said "Something Bad is Going on And We're Got to Realize That"

This weekend, more than 700,000 people were expected in Sturgis for motorcycle rally. "I'm very concerned that we're going to see another surge related to that rally," said Fauci. "I mean, to me it's understandable that people want to do the kinds of things they want to do. They want their freedom to do that, but there comes a time when you're dealing with a public health crisis that could involve you, your family and everyone else. That's something supersedes that need to do exactly what you want to do. I mean, you're going to ultimately be able to do that in the future, but let's get this pandemic under control before we start acting like nothing is going on. I mean, something bad is going on. I mean, we've got to realize that."
