Dr. Fauci Just Issued This Essential COVID Warning
As life in the United States continues to head toward a sense of normalcy, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases still has an important message for the American people. During the United States Senate Committee Hearing entitled An Update from Federal Officials on Efforts to Combat COVID-19 on Tuesday, he noted that we can learn from the COVID devastation currently going on in India. Dr. Fauci Wartned: "Don't Ever Underestimate" COVID
When asked what we can learn from the outbreak in India, Dr. Fauci didn't hold back. "I think one of the important things is, don't ever underestimate the situation," he revealed. "The reason that India is in such dire straits now is that they had an original surge and made the incorrect assumption that they were finished with it."
Instead of staying on the conservative side, they opted to pull back on mitigation methods, maintained Dr. Fauci. "They opened up prematurely and wind up having a surge right now that we're all very well aware of is extremely devastating."
Additionally, they failed with "preparedness with regard to public health," Fauci continued, "which we, as a lesson learned for future pandemics, have to realize that we need to continue to build up our local public health infrastructure, which over the last decades we has led to actually in many respects go into disarray, likely because of our successes in controlling so many diseases."
Finally, he pointed out "that this is a global pandemic that requires a global response, and we need to pay attention to the responsibility that we have—not only for our own country, but to join with other countries, to make sure that we have the access to interventions, particularly vaccines throughout the world. Because if it continues to have dynamics of virus anywhere in the world, we have a threat here in the United States, particularly with variants."
How to Stay Safe During This Pandemic
So follow Fauci's fundamentals and help end this pandemic, no matter where you live—wear a face mask that fits snugly and is double layered, don't travel, social distance, avoid large crowds, don't go indoors with people you're not sheltering with (especially in bars), practice good hand hygiene, get vaccinated when it becomes available to you, and to protect your life and the lives of others, don't visit any of these 35 Places You're Most Likely to Catch COVID.
