Dr. Fauci Just Issued This "Crucial" COVID Warning
Despite the fact that vaccination is amping up across the country daily, the COVID-19 pandemic is still going strong across the country. Over the last few days, health experts—including Dr. Rochelle Walensky, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the President and the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases—have been begging Americans to continue following the fundamental prevention measures in order to slow the spread of the virus. On Wednesday, Dr. Fauci issued a "disconcerting" warning concerning the direction things are heading. Read on to hear what he had to say—and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Signs Your Illness is Actually Coronavirus in Disguise.
Cases Are Increasing, Dr. Fauci Warned
Dr. Fauci explained that things are starting to worsen once again in terms of COVID-19 infections. "We are still right now, as you know from the last few days of the press conferences that we've given at the White House, at a crucial point in the pandemic where we are seeing a plateauing and now even an increasing in cases, which is very disconcerting," he admitted, speaking, in honor of National Farmworker Awareness Week, with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus at their virtual discussion on protecting Farmworkers from COVID-19.
"We had a major peak following the holiday season of Christmas and new year's and through January and early February. Then we had a precipitous drop downward, but now we've plateaued at anywhere between 50,000 and 65,000 cases a day, which is really very precarious."
"Now Is Not the Time to Pull Back on Mitigation Efforts"
He added that the worst thing that people can do right now, is to act as if the pandemic is over. "Now is not the time to pull back on mitigation efforts," he warned. His suggestions include "wearing a mask where possible" and "washing your hands" until everyone gets vaccinated.
The Next Few Week Are "Critical"
He also pointed out that what happens in the coming weeks will determine the trajectory of the pandemic. "The next few weeks are going to be a very critical part because we're seeing this potential surge of infections at the same time as we're vaccinating more and more people," he said. "It's going to be almost a race between getting people vaccinated versus avoiding a surge of new cases."
Do Your Part in Ending the Pandemic
So follow Fauci's fundamentals and help end this pandemic, no matter where you live—wear a face mask that fits snugly and is double layered, don't travel, social distance, avoid large crowds, don't go indoors with people you're not sheltering with (especially in bars), practice good hand hygiene, get vaccinated when it becomes available to you, and to protect your life and the lives of others, don't visit any of these 35 Places You're Most Likely to Catch COVID.
