Cameron Diaz's Outlook On Beauty Standards Is So Refreshing
There's no doubt about it: Cameron Diaz—aka the true queen of rom-com—is one of America's favorite stars. Diaz gets real about her beauty routine
49-year old Diaz recently revealed to Michelle Visage in Visage's BBC Rule Breakers podcast, "I literally do nothing. I like never wash my face… Twice a month if I'm lucky, I'll be like, 'Oh, I better put this on. One time works, right?' Like is that all I have to do? I'm just not in that place right now like where I put any energy."
After playing Miss Hannigan in Annie back in 2014, the celeb explains to Visage she's made many changes in her life. Taking a break from entertaining has allowed the star to free herself from a life where looks mean pretty much everything, and the venomous effect of staring at your reflection in a mirror every day for literally hours can bring on.
She understands how difficult it is "not to look at yourself and judge yourself against other markers of beauty"
Diaz is so honest and open, stating to Visage, "I am absolutely a victim to all of the societal objectification and exploitations that women are subjected to," adding, "I have bought into all of them myself at certain times."
So real and identifiable, Diaz also notes, "It's hard not to look at yourself and judge yourself against other markers of beauty, and I think that that's one of the biggest things… The last eight years, girl—I'm like wild. I'm like a wild animal, like a beast!" Anyone who uses social media on the regular can relate to these feelings. Although it's not living a Hollywood social life, it's not uncommon to view gorgeous pics of friends, influencers, and celebrities and feel a tad pressured or experiencing FOMO.
She says looks are literally "the last thing I think about" on the daily
The star is turning 50 in August and further tells Visage, "You just start to pick yourself apart, you know," adding, "And you're like, 'Why I am sitting here like being so mean to myself?' My body's strong, my body's capable. Why am I going to talk down to it? Why am I going to be mean to it when it's like carried me this far?"
Now that Diaz is away from it all, things are very different. "I don't care. Literally, the last thing I think about on a daily basis—like maybe not at all during the day—is what I look like," she says.
In a very appearance-conscious world, Diaz being Diaz makes one of our favorite stars that much more of a role model in our eyes. The co-founder/creator of "clean, delicious wine" brand AVALINE is doing her thing while living a happy, radiant life. As she gets ready to turn 50 this August, she is just looking to "stay strong," and we are totally here for that.
