Budweiser Just Launched This New Beer

The world's most famous beer company is dubbing it the "new generation of American golden lager."

Budweiser just released a new traditional lager called Budweiser Supreme, according to the company's Twitter feed. The world's most famous beer company is dubbing this latest addition to their lineup as the "new generation of American golden lager," and "An American Classic, Reimagined"—positioning it as a compelling alternative to their flagship Budweiser.

Currently, Budweiser Supreme is being test-marketed in select locations in New York, California, Texas, Ohio, and Washington D.C., according to local reports, before it's taken nationwide. One early review on Beer Advocate claims it tastes "Not much different than the standard bud, slightly sweeter and better tasting."

The big difference between Budweiser and Budweiser Supreme appears to be the type of malt used. Budweiser, according to the Anheuser-Busch site, is brewed with "two-row and six-row barley malt, hand-selected from regional growers all across America." Supreme, on the other hand, is triple filtered and features "American honey malt."

So the question is: Will this new brew replace Budweiser in popularity? Only time will tell, considering the original Budweiser has been brewed since 1876 and has spent the past 145 years as one of the most popular beers in the U.S. In recent years though, Bud Light has taken the title as the best-selling beer in America as the classic has slipped in sales.

Keep reading to find out exactly how Budweiser Supreme stacks up to Budweiser's other recent launches. And while you're keeping your eye out for new groceries to buy, check out 6 Things You'll See at Costco This Year.

Bud Light Next – 2022

Bud has been experimenting with light beer for a while—and understandably so, given Bud Light's popularity. The most recent addition to the family was Bud Light Next, the company's first-ever zero-carb beer, released in 2022 to coincide with the Super Bowl.

Bud Zero, which came out in 2020, is the first zero alcohol release from Budweiser. This brew is distinguished from other low-alcohol brews in that it also has zero sugar.

Budweiser Nitro Reserve Gold – 2020

This was Bud's answer to the craft brew trend of using nitrogen gas in beers. This interesting beer needs to be shaken three times before being served. You don't hear much about this one anymore, perhaps because it didn't quite catch on. Beer Advocate reviews are mixed, with some claiming the carbonation doesn't last, but that the flavor is decent.

Bud Light Platinum – 2012

Bud Light Platinum is a curious beer because it has the Bud Light name but it is only a few calories less than traditional Bud with a higher alcohol content: 6% vs. 5% ABV.

Budweiser Select 55 – 2009

This über-light beer came out as a complement to Budweiser Select. Select 55 has 55 calories and only 2 grams of carbs.

Budweiser Select – 2005

In 2005, Budweiser came out with this low-calorie, low-carb beer that claimed to taste like the real thing. At 99 calories and 3 grams of carbs, it was just slightly under Bud Light's 110 calories and had half the carbs.

Considering this recent lineup, Budweiser Supreme is a unique and interesting move for the beer giant in that it's a traditional-style beer that's going back to the company's roots.
