5 Beloved Restaurants Debuting New Menu Items While Cutting Others

Even though these chains have closed several locations, they're continuing to offer new dishes and drinks.

Many restaurant chains you adore have had to downsize both their number of locations as well as their menu options in the past couple of months. However, some are making tremendous efforts to boost customer morale by introducing all-new menu items.

Below, you'll see five such chains that have axed some of their most tried-and-true menu items, as well as those that would be considered honorable mentions, to replace them with more exciting options. And after, make sure to check out 30 Secret Recipes from Beloved Restaurant Chains.

Even though Taco Bell recently cut 12 items from its menu, the fast food chain just added a Grilled Cheese Burrito stuffed with three different kinds of cheese: mozzarella, cheddar, and pepper jack cheese. The cheesy burrito also packs seasoned beef and rice, crunchy red strips, chipotle sauce, and reduced-fat sour cream. It's truly the perfect hybrid of a Mexican delicacy and an American comfort classic.

The beloved breakfast chain just added three new BreakFEASTS dishes to its menu. The new items include The Kickin' Maple Chicken BreakFEAST, Crepes & Cakes, and the Classic BreakFEAST Sampler. In addition, the breakfast place will be adding a Crème Brulee Pancake Combo and Green Chili Omelet to the menu.

These new options come just over two months after IHOP franchisee, CFRA Holdings filed for bankruptcy on May 6 and closed all 49 of its locations in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Frisch's Big Boy

Frisch's Big Boy, which is getting a new mascot named Dolly, just added Fiona Berry Big Cake and Fiona Berry Pancakes to the menu, both of which are named after Fiona, the popular hippopotamus at the Cincinnati Zoo in Ohio. The pancakes are drizzled with blackberry sauce and doused in whipped topping and purple sprinkles and the cake is layered with ice cream. A portion of the sales for these two items go directly to the zoo and its botanical garden.
