McDonald's Is Rolling Out a Limited-Edition Bacon BBQ Burger—Here Are the Details

Will this item enter the McDonald's canon? Only time will tell, so get it while you can!

McDonald's took another step toward fast-food domination with a new announcement: You can now order a Bacon BBQ Burger (if you live in the continental United States, that is).

This whopper of a menu item features a quarter-pound beef patty topped with Applewood smoked bacon, bourbon BBQ sauce, fried onion strings, and that unmistakable neon-yellow American cheese, and it all comes on an artisan roll. Want even more beef flavor? It's available as a double, too, as a Double Bacon BBQ Burger.

Make no mistake: Despite a recent push by the fast-food industry toward adding more health-conscious options to menus, the Bacon BBQ Burger is a step in the opposite direction and is meant as a true treat. Clocking in at 710 calories (for the single, not the double) and loaded up with 120 milligrams of cholesterol, 15 grams of saturated fat, and 1,530 milligrams of sodium, "healthy" is the last word that could be used to describe it.

Still, though this menu entry isn't exactly going all-in on healthy eating, it is doubling down on bacon-flavored goodness—which follows a trend for the company. In January of this year, McDonald's launched a slew of products across the United States featuring bacon, including cheesy bacon fries and a Big Mac Bacon. Because really, what can't bacon improve?

The appearance of this limited-time menu item comes on the heels of another exciting announcement: McDonald's is also currently testing two new fried chicken sandwiches in the Knoxville, Tennessee, and Houston areas. (Reportedly, those two particular additions are meant to compete directly with the recent success of Popeyes chicken sandwich and Chick-fil-A's chicken everything.) If the limited-time run of the Bacon BBQ Burger strikes a chord with consumers and sells well enough, it may permanently enter the McDonald's menu for good.

McDonald's hasn't issued a formal stop date on the Bacon BBQ Burger's limited-edition run, so you better head over to your closest location soon—you never know when it'll disappear from the menu!
